15th birthday and beyond!

by Quercus
3 January 2018

Well, a few good folks have survived into the 15th year of our ever diminishing numbers and we still occasionally manage to get more than a few of us online at the same time.

It will be interesting to see if any games due in the next six months will bring the fabled “next big game” that we can all get enthusiastic about.
Enjoy the new year. 🙂

14th birthday celebrations!

Hussars Fourteenth Birthday Bash

Yes, it is that time again!

This weekend (starting from Friday) we are gathering to laugh, shout and generally extract the Michael on Teamspeak in recognition of the decade and a bit since we first gathered to do the same thing.
There are no firm plans to organise a specific game (although there has been a suggestion of attempting to complete a Heist in GTA V from start to finish), but just to join games as and when people feel like it (or not).

Please join us and join in the celebrations. Huzzah!

Our Troublesome Teens

by Quercus
4 November 2015

Yes, once again we reach the anniversary of the founding of our glorious clan.

As we hit the thirteen year mark we should raise a toast to all those still part of our online company and those who have added to our shenanigans in years past and are no longer with us. As always, we should remember the people responsible for the creation of the 1st Hussars clan – specifically Messrs Pte Niles (Baldric) and Major Headache (Flasheart), but aided and abetted by the like-minded and fumble-fingered folk such as Deadmeat (Miggins) and FanDancer (Proudfoot-Smith).

We are certainly nowhere near as active as we once were, but it is a testament to the community spirit that we created and maintained that many years after people have stopped playing the game that brought us all together, a core of us are still gathering regularly to take the mickey out of each other.

With that in mind, we will be gathering this Saturday night (from or shortly after 20:00) to take part in a group gathering in two parts:
Part The First: GTA V
Part The Second: Planetside 2

Anyone who doesn’t have GTA V is encouraged to hop on TS at some stage (if only so we can try and convence them to get the game as it is a damned fine and indeed fun gaming experience).
Anyone who doesn’t have an up-to-date version of Planetside 2 will need to download the game again as it has changed significantly since the demise of SOE. If you don’t have the game, please sign up for it as it is FREE – so there is no excuse.

Anyone reading this is of course considered part of our wider family and the invite is extended to them as well.

Yours respectfully,

Flasheart, Blackadder, Miggins and Agrajag
Co-Commanders, 1st Hussars

Happy birthday us!

4 November 2014

Today marks the twelfth anniversary since discussions between Messrs. Flasheart (Major Headache) and Baldric (Pte Niles) decided to fly in the face of received opinion and form a clan based not on competitive gaming, but on a desire to get together and have fun. It was (despite what they felt at the time) not the first such clan and will not be the last, but it was certainly a dramatic influence on an entire gaming community and would be so for years.

While many of those early recruits are no longer with us, a few are and despite many changes over the years, we have staggered on while many of our fellow clans have foundered. We raise a cheery wave with our fellow survivors from that battlefield community from many years ago and raise a toast to all those who have served with us in the past, who serve with us still and who will join us in the future.

HGG SITE ISSUES – Update #4 – A new start

by Hssr_admin
6 October 2014

Well, it has taken some time but the site has now been migrated (more or less successfully) to Voo’s web space (many thanks Voo), because I was getting fed up with the very patchy support from our previous hosts.

If you haven’t yet signed up to the new forum then please do so.

Hopefully we will see some of our errant members return in time for the 12th birthday next week.

HGG SITE ISSUES – Update #3

by Hssr_admin
6 October 2014

No news on the return of the forum yet, but we have (at Flasheart’s suggestion) set up a Facebook Group called Hussars Gaming Group as a way of communicating outside the forums.
If you are an HGG member and want to be included in the group, you need to do two things:
1. Be on Facebook. I know, I know, but that is how it is.
2. Tell me so I can add you as a friend. When I add any HGG member as a friend I will also add them to the HGG group.

I have been informed by our hosts that the issue with the old server should be resolved by tomorrow, which will hopefully enable them to get it up and running again and thus restore the forums to their previous glory.

This is just as well because so far all attempts to recover the forum from my backups or their network storage devices have failed.

Well, as you may have seen (especially if you are reading this), the bulk of the site is back and working, with our host having to migrate it onto a new server.

However … for some reason the forum still appears to be borked. I am trying to work through this with them but if we cannot get it working we may have to start from scratch with the forum, or something equally nasty.
I will keep you updated here.

*IMPORTANT*
As of yesterday (3rd October) there was an issue with the server where the HGG site is hosted, resulted in both the site and the forums being unavailable.

Today, it appears that the site is back again but there is still an issue with the forum (IPS errors on the database).
I have tried repairing the Database but this has not resolved the issue. Please bear with me while we wait for the hosts to resolve this. I will post here once everything is back.

Thanks.

Star Citizen – The Arena module

Comments Off on Star Citizen – The Arena module

Pax East has recently finished and one of the most exciting events was the CIG presentation of their Dog-Fighting Module (now renamed as Arena Commander). This gave many fans the first chance to see the dog-fighting in action and gave Chris Roberts the first chance to present the module to the massive fan-base.
Not content with reaching the $42 million crowd-funding total, the DFM will soon be with us and looks like a thing of beauty.
Highlights of the presentation (and some things they didn’t have time for) are shown in the video posted under the Star Citizen News topic.
